PAWAIAN PRAYER AND PRAISE July 06

They need our prayers

Dear Faithful Friends,

It is good to be writing to you again to share what the Lord has been doing in our part of the vineyard. The Lord is good! We continue to enjoy good health apart from the usual colds once in a while and a few aches and pains.

It is now almost forty years since Isa and I made our marriage vows before God and our family and friends in Whitehaven , Cumbria , England . Immediately after the reception we began our journey to the USA to begin training with New Tribes Mission. Over the past forty years we have proved the Lord’s faithfulness over and over again and can testify to the fact that He is faithful. He deserves our complete trust and obedience.

We expect to be here in the village for our anniversary and don’t expect to have an elaborate celebration. Perhaps we shall have one of Isa’s special meals together. It would be lovely if you could join us! Perhaps you would join with us on that day, August 6th, to praise God for his faithfulness.

In June we really enjoyed sharing a Bible conference with the Pawaian people here at Haia. The teaching was about “End Times” and we reveled in the word pictures of heaven and rejoiced as we anticipated enjoying the real thing together one day.  We still need to set a date to complete the study so please pray that the Pawaians will not delay too long. After the last session people came up to Jack to shake hands and thank him for the teaching. All the thanks go to the Lord, of course, since He is the one who will bring all things to their completion and fulfill all the prophecies and promises He has made in His word.

The proceedings were brought to a close with a feast of pork and vegetables cooked in a pit in the ground. But thing that thrilled us most about that day was a little piece of paper handed to Jack during the feast. It was a note written by a man who was too sick to attend the teaching sessions. It went something like this:

 Friend Jack. Good afternoon.

I am just sending a little talk. That talk is like this. The fact that I am not coming to the place for hearing God's talk is because I am sick and am at home. My skin is hurting a lot.

But people keep bringing me verse and chapter numbers and being in the house I keep reading those. So my heart is not heavy.

But those people who have been hearing the talk say, As for us, it is as though we had already gone to heaven they say.

So because God has helped you to teach people well I am really happy. He is wonderful!

     Friend my talk finishes there.

Bye bye.

I am Lamek.

It has been our privilege to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to these people who otherwise might never have heard it. You have been an indispensable part of the team making that objective possible by your faithful prayer support over many years. Thank you for standing with us.

This coming week will see another Pawaian Bible conference being held, this time at Japalamatu. This village is a full day’s hike to the west and, unfortunately, though we would very much like to be there, we shall not be attending. We have reached the stage where helicopter flights are the only safe way for us to reach some of the places where the Pawaians roam freely and such flights are out of our budget!!

Because the things we want to do for the Pawaians no longer need us to be at Haia to do them, we are in the middle of getting ready to leave the village. This house has been our home for thirty years; the place where we raised our children; a place that holds many precious memories for us. It is not easy to let go and we would appreciate your prayers as we sort through our belongings and get rid of any unnecessary items. To have to fly them out of here would only be an extra expense so, even though some things have much sentimental value, they will have to go.

Next year we are due to take a furlough. We do not know if we shall return to PNG or not. There is so much to do on the field. We look forward to the next phase of our lives. We have no idea what the future may hold for us but we know who holds the future. Our desire is to know what the Lord wants us to do so please pray that he will graciously show us His will when the time comes that we need to know.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer. We pray that the Lord will bless you for your faithfulness. He is worthy of all the glory we can give Him.

 Yours in His safe keeping,

Jack and Isa Douglas
